The new welding lab constructed at the Greater Michigan Construction Academy (GMCA) has advanced the applications, opportunities and effectiveness of training for students both in the academy’s night-time (adult) and day-time (high school) sessions.

Welding is a critical part of six different trades taught by the academy. Prior to the grant, this training was provided at contractors’ sites throughout the area. Because this is a skill that requires the utmost precision, this arrangement compromised the consistency of the required training – as well as training time.

The transition from classroom to lab insures a much smoother and more consistent training environment for every student. And the accessibility of this state-of-the-art welding lab makes training possible for the entire community.
